IMH co-director Judith Muir and students featured in Poughkeepsie Journal
“The students from Hawk Meadow Montessori School in LaGrange brought the gift of song to the seniors at the Fishkill Senior Drop-in Center last month.
Under the tutelage of Judith Muir, director of early childhood education of the Institute for Music and Health in Verbank, Hawk Meadow Montessori students learned songs such as ‘You Are My Sunshine’ and ‘Yes Sir, That’s My Baby.’ These songs, which mostly come from the golden era of American popular song, are tunes with catchy melodies that are easy to memorize.
The main goal of the music outreach program is to create a connection between the children and the seniors. The children actively engaged the seniors, making eye contact, singing and even dancing.”
