Director of Programs
Judith Muir M.M. M.AmSAT., is a professional musician, award-winning music educator, and certified teacher of the Alexander Technique.
Judith’s interest in the relationship between music and healing was originally sparked while she was a music school. After her first Alexander Technique lesson, she experienced greater improvements to her playing than anything prompted by her clarinet teacher. As a result, she became a certified Alexander teacher, obtained a degree in music therapy, and has trained for the past twenty years in the Diamond Path of Life with holistic medical pioneer John Diamond M.D.
A distinguished clarinetist and teacher, Judith has performed both classical and jazz concerts at venues including Carnegie Hall, St. Martin in the Fields, and Wigmore Hall. She has a masters in Music from the Manhattan School of Music in New York City and the Royal Academy of Music in London. She is currently director of programs for the Institute of Music and Health in New York’s Hudson Valley.
Judith is a senior Alexander Technique teacher with over thirty years of teaching and teacher training experience on three continents. She was a founding member of the American Society of Alexander Teachers (AmSAT, the largest professional organization of Alexander teachers in the US) and Vice-chair at the American Center for the Alexander Technique. For twelve years she taught Alexander Technique at Bard College as associate professor of theatre, having previously taught at the Actors’ Movement Studio in New York City, Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts, and the Powerhouse Theatre Apprentice Program, Vassar College.
